Theog Shimla Himachal Tour – Offbeat Himalaya Trip (4N/5D)

5 Days / 4 Nights

Overview

Most Shimla trips stop at the Mall Road. The offbeat Himalayan trip has Shimla for a day before proceeding to Theog, a quiet little hill station approximately 30 km ahead on the old Hindustan-Tibet road, where apple orchards and forest ridges take the place of crowds. You will travel overnight from Delhi in an AC Volvo and be at Shimla for Christ Church, Green Valley viewpoint, Jakhu temple in Jakhoo Hill, and a wonderful evening at Mall Road.

Day three of the trip brings the real experience, walking over five ridges, or ghats – Rahi Ghat, Deori Ghat, Prem Ghat, Janoghat and Bagaghat, and visiting Sainj Palace and local temples if time permits. On return, you will also spend a day in Kufri, famous for winter snow – at Indira Park, Himalayan Nature Park at Chini Bungalow and open slopes of Fagu, later taking the evening Volvo from Shimla.

Day three is the heart of the trip: walks across Theog's five ridges, or ghats – Rahi Ghat, Deori Ghat, Prem Ghat, Janoghat and Bagaghat – with a visit to Sainj Palace and local temples if time allows.

The travel plan is tailored for couples, friends, and small groups looking for a weekend getaway to the mountains that includes a little trekking but not a lot of people. Two nights in Shimla and Theog in 3-star hotels with breakfast included, where you can rest in between trekking, while your Volvo gives you the hours to explore the daytime sights.

You can always cut the distance if necessary. In order to make the experience enjoyable, you ned to wear comfortable shoes and a light jacket, as the weather may change at any time.

What is the best time for a trip to Shimla and Theog?

Between March to June, there are good conditions for sightseeing and climbing the mountains. October to November has pleasant weather and clear skies. December to February is cold, with snow in the Kufri and Fagu region that many visitors seek. July–September is monsoon season and can lead to landslides, so remember to stay flexible.

How is the trip from Delhi done?

On day 1, you travel by a Volvo air-conditioned bus from RK Ashram or Majnu ka Tila bus stand in Delhi, arriving in Shimla early on day 2, where a representative meets you.
