Bir Billing Tour Package with Barot Valley – Himachal Trip (4N/5D)
Overview
Bir Billing is India's best-known paragliding site – it hosted the Paragliding World Cup in 2015 – and this short Himachal trip builds a full holiday around a flight there. You travel overnight by bus from Delhi and wake up in Bir, a quiet Kangra Valley village with a large Tibetan settlement, monasteries, a tea factory and a small waterfall within easy reach.
Day two covers Palpung Sherabling Monastery near Bhattu, Chokling Monastery, a colourful Nyingma monastery, the Deer Park Institute, the Bir Tea Factory and a short walk to Bangoru Waterfall. On day three you go up to Billing and paraglide back down to Bir, then drive on to Barot, a green valley on the Uhl River known for trout fishing, for a nature walk in the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary, home to the monal pheasant, black bear and goral.
The trip suits adventure lovers, first-time flyers and anyone who likes small mountain villages more than busy resorts. You stay one night in Bir and one in Barot in 3-star hotels on double occupancy with breakfast every morning, and the overnight buses on either side keep your daylight hours free for the hills.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is paragliding included in this package?
Yes, day 3 includes a tandem flight from Billing down to Bir. Flying depends on wind and weather and is usually suspended during the monsoon months, so the exact take-off time is fixed on the day. Mountain biking to Sherabling Monastery and trout fishing in Barot are optional extras at your own expense.
Do I need experience to paraglide at Bir Billing?
No. Tandem flights are made for complete beginners: you are harnessed to a trained pilot who handles the take-off, flight and landing, and you only need to run a few steps at take-off when told. Wear closed shoes and warm layers, and tell us about any medical condition before you fly.
What is the best time to visit Bir Billing?
October and November usually bring the steadiest flying weather and clear views, and March to June is also a good window. Winters are cold but often clear. The July–September monsoon brings heavy rain and paragliding is usually suspended, so avoid those months if flying is your main reason to go.
What is there to do in Barot Valley?
Barot is a quiet valley on the Uhl River, up to about 3 hours' drive from Bir. You can walk through cedar and pine forest in the Nargu Wildlife Sanctuary, visit the old Barot temple, browse the small market and sit by the river. Trout fishing is popular here and can be arranged at extra cost.
Which meals are included?
Daily breakfast at your hotels in Bir and Barot is included. Lunch and dinner are not, which leaves you free to try Bir's Tibetan cafés, known for momos and thukpa, and simple local food in Barot. Meals during the two overnight bus journeys are also at your own cost.
How do we travel from Delhi and back?
You board an overnight bus at RK Ashram Marg or Majnu Ka Tila in Delhi on day 1 and reach Bir the next morning. On day 4 you drive back from Barot to Bir for the overnight bus to Delhi, arriving early on day 5. Getting to the Delhi boarding point is at your own cost.
