5 Nights 6 Days Manali, Rohtang Pass & Jispa Tour
Overview
This tour goes beyond Manali's usual sightseeing and up into the high, dry valleys of Lahaul. After an overnight Volvo from Majnu Ka Tila in Delhi, you spend your first day in Manali on Mall Road and in its cafés, then head up to Rohtang Pass, at almost 4,000 metres, with a stop at Sissu village on the far side of the range.
On day four you drive through the Atal Tunnel into Lahaul, stopping at Sissu and at Keylong, the district headquarters, before a night at Jispa on the Bhaga River. The next day starts early on the Manali–Leh highway: Deepak Tal, Suraj Tal, one of the highest lakes in India, and Baralacha Pass at close to 4,900 metres, weather permitting, before the long drive back to Manali.
This is for the type of traveller who wants the big mountain scenery and is OK with long drives and high altitude. You're on double occupancy in 3 star hotels in Manali and a hotel or camp at Jispa (with breakfast each day). Rohtang and Baralacha passes are subject to permits, road opening and weather so the plan is based on the conditions on the day.

Policy & Important Term
- Every traveller must carry a valid government photo ID (Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence). Foreign nationals need a passport with a valid Indian visa.
- Vehicles to Rohtang Pass need a permit issued by the Manali administration, and the number of permits each day is capped; the permit charge is not included unless your quotation says so.
- The Rohtang Pass and the road to the Baralacha Pass are closed by snow for the majority of the winter and are only opened each year following snow clearance. Visits are therefore entirely at the mercy of the road opening, the weather and government orders.
- Baralacha Pass is just short of 5000m. Please drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and let us know of any pre-existing heart, lung or blood pressure condition as altitude can have an effect on anyone.
- The order of the sightseeing may change due to traffic, weather or local events.
- The vehicle is provided for the routes in the itinerary. Any additional trips or detours will be charged separately.
- Standard check-in and check-out times apply. Early check-in following the overnight journey is possible subject to availability.
FAQ's
Is a permit needed for Rohtang Pass?
Yes, vehicles heading for the Rohtang Pass require a permit from the Manali side and only a limited number are issued per day so the visit is dependent upon securing a permit for your date. The permit fee is not included in the package price unless that is specifically stated in your quotation and we will of course take you through the process.
When is Rohtang Pass open?
Rohtang Pass is closed by snow for the majority of the winter. It typically reopens to tourist traffic in late spring/early summer once the road has been cleared and then closes again with the first significant winter snowfall. The precise dates for reopening and closing are announced each year by the local authority so it's worth checking with us prior to booking.
Is the altitude safe on this tour?
Most people do just fine, Baralacha Pass is right at 4900m though so take it easy. You should rest on day one in Manali, drink lots of water, avoid alcohol and let your driver know if you get a headache, nausea or breathlessness. Anyone with heart, lung or blood pressure problems should see a doctor first.
Where do we stay in Jispa?
Your night in Jispa is at a hotel or a camp (depending on availability for your dates) on double occupancy. Jispa is a small village on the Bhaga River just beyond Keylong and it's cold at night there even in summer so do take a warm jacket, a cap and gloves.
Do we reach Delhi on day 6?
No. On day 6 you take the evening Volvo from Manali, overnight journey and arrive in Delhi the next morning. Please plan any onward train or flight for the day (later that day) as mountain road travel times can be unpredictable, particularly in the monsoon.
Which meals are included?
Breakfast is included at your hotels in Manali and at Jispa. Lunch and dinner are not, and the food stops on the Lahaul roads are just simple roadside dhabas. You'll need to carry snacks and water for the long drives to Rohtang and Baralacha.
