Rajasthan Heritage Tour – Jaipur to Bikaner Itinerary (8N/9D)

9 Days / 8 Nights

Overview

Nine days let you see Rajasthan as a full circuit rather than a sampler. Starting and ending in Jaipur, the route loops through five former princely capitals – Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner – with a night in the desert along the way. Two days in Jaipur cover the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal and the Albert Hall Museum, then the Amber, Jaigarh and Nahargarh forts on the ridges above the city.

Heading south, you stop at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Pushkar's Brahma Temple and lake before two nights in Udaipur for the City Palace and its Crystal Gallery, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon ki Bari, Moti Magri and a boat ride on Lake Pichola. Ranakpur Jain temples will be amazed you during the trip to Jodhpur and Mehrangarh Fort, and then you enter the Thar Desert region to witness the inhabited Jaisalmer Fort and havelis, as well as spend your evening in a camel safari ending with an overnight stay at the Sam Sand Dunes. Your final destination will be Bikaner, with Junagarh Fort, Rampuria Havelis, and the choice of visiting Karni Mata temple at Deshnok.

The tour suits travellers with more than a week who want Rajasthan's forts, palaces, temples and desert in one trip, at a steady pace with a private vehicle and driver. You stay in 3-star hotels plus one desert camp night, with daily breakfast, and finish with a drive back to Jaipur or on to Jodhpur.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should one go for this Rajasthan heritage tour?

October to March is the perfect season with pleasant days for visits to the forts and cool nights in the desert region. If you visit in January, make sure you find out about the Camel Festival in Bikaner, while in February, the Desert Festival in Jaisalmer.

How much driving is involved?

This is a road trip, with five long driving days of about 5 to 6.5 hours each: Jaipur to Udaipur, Udaipur to Jodhpur, Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, Jaisalmer to Bikaner, and Bikaner back to Jaipur or Jodhpur. Tourist destinations like Pushkar and Ranakpur break the long stretches of travel into segments, and your driver makes halts when necessary.

Is dinner at the desert camp included?

No. However, since the package includes breakfast only, you will need to pay for dinner separately unless it is included in your quotation. The sunset camel safari, folk music and dance performance, and bonfire are part of the tour, and breakfast at the camp the next morning is included.

What is the Karni Mata Temple at Deshnok?

It is a temple about 30 km south of Bikaner, known for the thousands of rats that live there and are revered by devotees. The eighth-day visit is completely optional. Shoes must be removed at the entrance, so many visitors carry a pair of socks.

Is it possible to conclude the tour in Jodhpur rather than in Jaipur?

Certainly. On the ninth day, it will take 5 hours to go by car from Bikaner to Jodhpur, while the return to Jaipur will take about 6 hours. Specify your preference during booking, and we will arrange the last transportation.

Is it possible to include rest days and better accommodation?

Of course. Having a day of rest in Udaipur or Jaisalmer after driving a long distance will allow you to have a more relaxing day, and you may arrange four-star or heritage hotels in any city. Please specify your schedule, and we will send you a new quote.
